Tuned Out

You know you are getting old when...

You still have cassette tapes and your old heavy duty waterproof Sony Walkman. The other day, Little Dude B stumbled across this find and was mesmerized. "Hey Mom, what is this thing?" As I quickly explained "this" gadget, he quickly made the leap forward to the 21st Century. He then pointed out the obvious...that it is like a dinosaur MP3 player or IPod. BINGO!

Well, the Little Dudes received inexpensive MP3 players for their Birthday. It is a beautiful thing as I no longer have to hear the "Phineas and Ferb" soundtrack blaring from their CD player or the bickering of which song to play over and over. As time goes on, I am sure we will have to upgrade to the snazzier versions, but, it has already caused them to "tune out" on more than one occasion.

Eau de Little Dude

Maybe it is just me, but buying scented candles is a HUGE process. I spend wasted minutes sniffing various scents until I can no longer distinguish vanilla lemon, from midnight summer, to pineapple-cilantro. I always find I go back to my old favorites, Yankee Candle's "Clean Cotton" and Colonial Candle's "Thai Silk." I often ponder who comes up with the scents and the names. I am certain it is a lot of trial and error.

While at the gym yesterday, I saw a quick snip it of Regis & Kelly. Anderson Cooper was filling in for Regis and was talking about a scented candle he recently saw featured in the NY Daily News. It seems, White Castle Burgers now has its own "flame broiled" scented candle and is quite popular. I do not know about you, but the scent of grease, burger and pickles is not one I want permeating throughout my house. Evidently, this scent appeals to the men folk.

This got me thinking...

Leather, Sandalwood, Balsam are all VERY masculine scents and readily available. I thought perhaps I ought to introduce a scent that is very appealing in its own way "Little Dude Smell." It could be packaged with a cool name like "Rugged Tyke" or "Daring Dirtball." This would not be a hard scent to create as it is pretty universal. I would even use my Little Dudes for the label.

It would be hard to resist!

To Laugh or Not to Laugh?

I am in a quandry as I post this photo. It can be either hysterically funny or utterly disturbing. My first reaction was to laugh and grab the camera. After downloading the picture, I started to envision a bank heist.

VERDICT...Mom wants to view this as a "humorous" shot vice bank robber disguise!

Sick Day

Last week, Little Dude M was plagued by a mysterious tummy bug. Although he admitted he liked having the Legos, the TV, and Mom to himself, he did miss school and his brother. He decided he wanted to make his Little Dude B a trinket. We decided to dig into the "craft" chest where we found a weird colored assortment of melt beads. Little Dude M spent a good 20 minutes playing around coming up with ideas when all of a sudden he said "I know what I am going to make." I was in the midst of an email and did not look up for a few moments. When I did, I found the following creation.

Coolest part of the gecko is that his head glows in the dark.

Celebrating the Irish

In trying to get the munchkins in touch with their "Irish" ancestry, I thought it would be fun to attend the annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner at our Church. The kids were really excited and went to great extremes rummaging through drawers in search of GREEN articles of clothing to cwear. The advertised menu of corn beef, cabbage and soda bread did not even dampen their spirits. Big Sister had the inside gossip (pizza was to be the alternative entree).

Although, Little Dude M had the tummy bug the evening prior, he perked up enough to join us in the festivities. The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially since a few classmates were hanging around. I was enjoying the music and songs of my young adulthood when I would frequent those Irish Pubs/Piano bars. One can never get to much of "Those Silly Unicorns." If anything, the munchkins were intrigued that I knew several of the Irish ditties.
